Welcome to the Beauty Standard with Dr Roy Kim.
Speaker 2:Hey everyone and welcome back, ready for another deep dive.
Speaker 1:I am.
Speaker 2:Great, today we're going to be talking all about necklifts.
Speaker 1:Ooh, necklifts.
Speaker 2:Specifically, we're going to break down those mini, traditional and deep necklifts.
Speaker 1:Sounds good.
Speaker 2:You sent us over this blog article and some really interesting image prompts, so I'm kind of curious what sparked your interest in learning more about these different techniques?
Speaker 1:Yeah, you know it's interesting. Neck lifts have become increasingly popular and I think more people are looking to address the signs of aging in the neck area. For sure.
Speaker 2:So that's really what we're hoping to do today Just break down the differences between those three techniques we talked about the mini, the traditional and the deep. We're going to figure out what they actually involve and who they might be best suited for.
Speaker 1:Perfect.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and I think by the end of this deep dive you'll be equipped with all the right questions to ask if you're considering any kind of neck rejuvenation procedure. So the first thing that really jumped out at me in this blog article was that there's no official definition of a mini neck lift. Did that stand out to you at all when you were reading through it?
Speaker 1:It definitely did. I think that lack of a standardized definition can be really confusing for patients.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's kind of like the Wild West of neck lifts.
Speaker 1:Right Like. What exactly are we talking about here?
Speaker 2:Exactly, and I think it really highlights why it's so important to have a thorough consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon. They can kind of clarify what they mean by a mini lift. Absolutely Make sure you're both on the same page before you move forward with anything. So let's unpack a little bit of what the article did say about mini neck lifts. They really emphasize the less invasive nature of the procedure which I think is a big draw for a lot of people.
Speaker 2:Oh, absolutely Shorter incisions, usually just under the chin and maybe a little bit around the ear, and then, of course, a faster recovery time Right Always applies.
Speaker 1:It's definitely appealing.
Speaker 2:Yeah, but it's important to remember that many lifts are really best suited for those early signs of aging in the neck. So we're talking like mild sagging skin, a little bit of excess fat. You know it's not a magic solution for more advanced aging concerns.
Speaker 1:Right, it's really important to have realistic expectations going into any procedure.
Speaker 2:Okay, makes sense. The article also mentioned that liposuction and non-invasive skin tightening techniques are often combined with mini lifts. Why is that?
Speaker 1:Well, leposuction can be really effective at removing those stubborn pockets of fat that we often see under the chin, and then those non-invasive skin tightening treatments. They can further enhance the results by improving the appearance of any mild skin laxity.
Speaker 2:Gotcha, so it's like a little combo approach.
Speaker 1:Exactly. It's all about tailoring the treatment plan to the individual's needs.
Speaker 2:Love that. Okay, so mini lifts are for those early signs, but what happens when you're dealing with more like noticeable sagging? You know those vertical bands that can develop, or maybe even a double chin. That's where the traditional neck lift comes in, right?
Speaker 1:Yeah, exactly, and with a traditional neck lift we're really addressing both the skin and the platysma muscle. So that's the thin sheet of muscle that runs down the front of your neck.
Speaker 2:The article mentioned that the incisions for a traditional neck lift typically start in the hairline, then go around the ear and end in the hair at the back of the head. That sounds pretty extensive.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it is a more involved procedure than a mini lift. But those incisions are strategically placed to give the surgeon access to the necessary tissues so they can lift, tighten both the skin and the platysma muscle, really create a more defined youthful contour.
Speaker 2:So we've got the mini lift, we've got the traditional lift, and then we've got the deep neck lift, the one that goes well deep. What sets this one apart from the others?
Speaker 1:Well, a deep neck lift really goes beyond just the skin and the platysma. We're talking about addressing the structures that lie beneath them, things like prominent salivary glands or even the digastric muscles, which are those deeper central neck muscles.
Speaker 2:Yeah, the article mentioned that most people don't actually need a deep neck lift.
Speaker 1:Right, it's really reserved for those specific anatomical cases where those depper structures are really contributing to the aging appearance of the neck.
Speaker 2:It's interesting, though, to know it's an option for those who need it, and the article also touched on something that caught my eye combining a neck lift with a facelift. Now that sounds like the ultimate transformation. It makes sense when you think about it A fac Now that sounds like the ultimate transformation.
Speaker 1:It makes sense when you think about it. A face lift focuses on the lower face, so sagging, cheeks, jowls, wrinkles while the neck lift targets the neck and jawline. Together they can create a really harmonious, balanced rejuvenation.
Speaker 2:It's like a total refresh for the entire lower face and neck.
Speaker 1:Precisely. It's a holistic approach to facial rejuvenation.
Speaker 2:So we've talked a lot about these different types of necklaces, but before we jump into the pros and cons of each one, I want to circle back to those image prompts you sent over.
Speaker 1:Oh, yeah, those were fun.
Speaker 2:Yeah, you had three and each one had a different visual take on explaining these necklaces techniques. I thought that was really cool.
Speaker 1:I love when complex medical information is presented in a visually engaging way and I think it can really make a big difference in helping patients grasp those concepts.
Speaker 2:Okay, so the first one showcased three different women each representing a different type of neck lift. We had the mini, traditional and the deep. What did you think about that approach?
Speaker 1:I think using visuals like that can be really powerful, especially for conveying the specific concerns that each technique addresses.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it makes it easier to visualize the possibility.
Speaker 1:Right and maybe even see themselves in those results.
Speaker 2:Right, exactly. So. The second prompt had this luxurious spa setting and there were three treatment chairs, each labeled mini, traditional and deep.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that one was a bit more playful.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and it was interesting how they incorporated illustrations of the neck to show the targeted areas for each technique. Added a nice layer of clarity.
Speaker 1:I liked that visual element.
Speaker 2:And then the third one was designed like a choose-your-own-adventure board game, and each path on the board highlighted the key features of each neck lift type.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that was really creative and interactive.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it really encourages people to engage with material in a fun way, explore those different paths.
Speaker 1:So, of those three which prompt resonated with you the most, that's a good question.
Speaker 2:What I find fascinating about all three of them is what I find fascinating about all three of them is how they each tap into that emotional aspect of choosing a neck lift. It's not just about the technical stuff. It's really about how someone feels about the changes they're seeing and what they hope to achieve.
Speaker 1:Absolutely. Those visuals can be really powerful for helping someone connect with the process and envision themselves coming out the other side feeling more confident, more comfortable in their own skin it's almost like they make it feel more real, more attainable.
Speaker 2:It's okay. So just to kind of recap what we've talked about so far, we've got the mini lift, great for those early signs of aging, but might not be suitable for those more significant concerns. Then there's the traditional lift, which can tackle more noticeable sagging, the the muscle banding, even double chins, and finally we have the deep neck lift, which is more for specific cases where those deeper structures are the issue.
Speaker 1:You got it. And don't forget, we also talked about combining a neck lift with a facelift. For that like total rejuvenation.
Speaker 2:The full package. But okay, I have a confession to make. When I first started reading about all these different techniques, I have to admit I felt a little overwhelmed.
Speaker 1:It's a lot to take in. I totally get that. It's easy to get lost in all the details, and I think that's exactly why those consultations with qualified plastic surgeons are so important. They can really help you kind of sift through the information, assess your own unique needs and guide you towards that most appropriate option for you.
Speaker 2:It's like having a trusted advisor.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:To help you navigate this whole process.
Speaker 1:Yeah, exactly, they're there to answer any questions you might have, address any concerns and make sure you feel comfortable and confident every step of the way. Love that.
Speaker 2:So let's say you've done your research, you've had your consultations, you're ready to take that plunge. What kind of recovery can you expect? Is it pretty much the same for all the neck lift techniques?
Speaker 1:Well, not exactly. Recovery time can vary depending on the specific type of neck lift that you have. With a mini lift, you can generally expect a faster recovery period, potentially back to your normal routine within like a week or two.
Speaker 2:Wow, that's pretty quick.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it is. You might have some swelling bruising, but it should subside fairly quickly.
Speaker 2:Okay, and what about those traditional deep neck lifts?
Speaker 1:So with those you're looking at a bit of a longer recovery. You'll need to take it easy for a few weeks, avoid any strenuous activities and you'll likely be wearing a compression garment to help minimize the swelling. Gotcha no-transcript.
Speaker 2:Okay, great. So it's all about patience and following the doctor's orders, but you know, the results must be worth it.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah.
Speaker 2:Speaking of results, how long do they typically last Like? How long can someone expect to enjoy that more youthful look after a neck lift?
Speaker 1:That's a great question and the answer really depends on a few factors, things like the type of lift you had, individual anatomy, lifestyle choices, things like that. But in general, a well-performed neck lift can really set back the clock by several years. Wow Give you that more youthful, defined appearance and that can last for a decade, or even longer Decade. That's incredible, it is pretty amazing. But it is important to remember that aging is, you know, an ongoing process. So, even with a neck lift, your skin will continue to age naturally over time.
Speaker 2:Right, it's not a permanent solution.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:But a pretty amazing way to kind of hit the pause button for a while.
Speaker 1:Exactly, and you know, down the road there are always those non-surgical treatments to help maintain the results and address any new concerns as they come up.
Speaker 2:So true, it's about being proactive, yeah, and taking that holistic approach to aging gracefully. Now, before we wrap up this part of our deep dive, I just keep coming back to this one question, like if I were thinking about getting a neck lift, what are the most important things I should be thinking about?
Speaker 1:Oh, that's a great question. It's such a personal decision, but you know. First and foremost, foremost, be honest with yourself about your motivations. Why do you want a neck lift? What are you hoping to achieve?
Speaker 2:get clear on that.
Speaker 1:Why exactly and then do your research. We've talked about a lot today, but there's always more to learn. Read reviews, you know. Talk to people who have had necklaces. Consult with multiple surgeons don't just rely on dr google yes, it's so important to find a surgeon that you really trust, who understands your goals, who has the experience, the expertise to deliver those results that you want.
Speaker 2:Like finding the perfect partner, but for your neck.
Speaker 1:Precisely and, last but not least, be realistic about your expectations. A neck lift can do amazing things, but it can't completely stop the aging process altogether.
Speaker 2:Embrace the journey, not the pursuit of perfection.
Speaker 1:Love that. Okay, I have a thought-provoking question to leave with our listener. As you think about your age, your lifestyle and that desired outcome, which type of neck lift feels most relevant to your needs, and what other questions would you want to ask a surgeon during that consultation?
Speaker 2:Ooh, that's a good one. It really makes you think about what's right for you, not just what you've seen in pictures or heard from friends. And speaking of those image prompts you sent in, speaking of those image prompts you sent in, did any of them kind of stand out to you as being particularly helpful or informative? You know, maybe one that made you think? Yeah that's exactly the kind of change I'm looking for.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's funny how sometimes just a visual can really help you solidify your understanding, like, for example, if you found yourself drawn to that choose your own adventure board game prompt. Maybe it's because you like to really weigh all your options, see the different paths clearly laid out, or maybe you connected more with the one that showed real women and their results because it felt more relatable.
Speaker 2:For sure, and it really drives home the point that this isn't just some abstract medical concept. We're talking about real people achieving real transformations, reclaiming their confidence and feeling good in their own skin At the end of the day. Isn't that what it's all about?
Speaker 1:Absolutely, and you know it's so important to remember that everyone's journey is unique. What works for one person might not be the best fit for another. Again, that's why those consultations with qualified plastic surgeons are just so crucial.
Speaker 2:So true, it's like finding the perfect partner, but for your neck, you really want someone who understands your vision, makes you feel comfortable and has the expertise to guide you towards the best possible outcome.
Speaker 1:Exactly and don't be afraid to ask questions during those consultations. This is your face, your body, your journey. You deserve to feel informed and empowered every step of the way, and it seems like you're already doing a great job of that, based on the research you've done.
Speaker 2:That's awesome. And remember learning doesn't stop here, even after our deep dive today. Keep researching, keep exploring and keep those questions coming.
Speaker 1:The more informed you are, the more confident you'll feel in making the best decision for you.
Speaker 2:To wrap things up, we want to leave you with one final thought to ponder as you think about your own age, your lifestyle, what you're hoping to achieve, which type of neck lift seems most relevant to your needs and what other questions would you bring to that consultation with a surgeon?
Speaker 1:It's your journey.
Speaker 2:So keep diving deep, keep asking questions and keep taking charge of your own health and happiness.
Speaker 1:We'll catch you on the next deep dive. Thank you for listening to the Beauty Standard with Dr Roy Kim. Make sure to follow for future topics and episodes.
